Kantonsschule Wettingen (KSWE) is a state school in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland. There are more than 1,000 students in the Baccalaureate School and the Upper-secondary Specialised School. 40% of the students in the Baccalaureate School attend a bilingual class (German - English). Our aim is to cater for the individual needs of all our students. Music plays a big role in everyday life at our school.
Kantonsschule Wettingen provides quality education for academically gifted young adults with a strong commitment to learning. It is a school for inquisitive, self-motivated learners who get professional support in their striving for academic excellence and who take pride in their achievements. Our aim is to develop our students’ intellectual, physical, creative and social potential. We promote knowledge, understanding, acceptance and respect for other cultures, beliefs and lifestyles.
The course at the Baccalaureate School takes four years and prepares students for further education on the tertiary level. The Matura examination is a prerequisite for admission to Swiss universities and the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH).
In the bilingual classes of the Baccalaureate School students have an additional 600 lessons in English.
We are an IB school. In April 2010 the Kantonsschule Wettingen was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to teach the IB Diploma Programme. There is one bilingual class in both the 12th and 13th grade doing a combined course bilingual Matura and IB Diploma Programme.
Further, we offer courses at the Upper-secondary Specialised School, which lasts three years and prepares students for vocational education and training at colleges of higher vocational education and training, and at universities of applied sciences in the fields of communication, health and social work, education and design/art. With additional one-year training, a diploma for the Upper-secondary Specialised School can be obtained.
The Kantonsschule Wettingen has special learning programmes for gifted students («Stella Maris»).
There is a unique atmosphere in the historic buildings on the grounds of the former Cistercian Monastery of Wettingen. Together with the nearby 19th century weaving and spinning mill they form the campus of the school. The Cistercian Monastery of Wettingen was founded in 1227 and dissolved in 1841. From 1847 to 1976 the school was a teacher training college.
The Kantonsschule Wettingen is situated on a small peninsula formed by the meandering river Limmat, close to the town and spa of Baden, and is ideally located within easy reach of Zurich (20km), Bern (60km) and Basel (45km).
We have exchange programmes with our partner schools, Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Heidenau, Germany, Beijing Middle School No. 19, China, Amity International Schools, India, and the canton of Vaud, Switzerland.
